Pre-etapa
Ahead of you awaits this magnificent Greenway that crosses the provinces of Navarra and Alava. It is made up of some 190 kms adapted to be done with small children. The average daily difference in altitude is about 200 m. Absolutely all the stages run along paths or cycle tracks. The Via Verde of the old train, the Izki Natural Park and the Ulibarri de Gamboa Reservoir are the three natural environments through which the whole of this cycling tour runs.
Estella to Santa Kruz de Campezo
The route starts in Estella, leaving from the old train station and after a few kilometres it enters the province of Alava. The route passes through small villages, some of which coincide with the Pilgrims’ Route to Santiago.
Santa Kruz de Campezo to Argomaniz
A route through the mountains of Alava and the Izki Nature Reserve. A relaxing stage through picturesque and historic villages in Alava. In the village of Trokoniz we leave the greenway to take tracks that will take us to the Ulibarri de Gamboa reservoir. The route starts in Estella, leaving from the old train station and after a few kilometres you will enter the province of Alava. You will pass through small villages, some of which coincide with the Way of St. James.
Argomaniz a Vitoria
Located on the plains of Alava, the route continues around the Ulibarri de Gamboa reservoir until it reaches the small village of Luko. There are only a few kilometres left until you reach Vitoria, which will be done along the cycle lanes that approach the city and form the green ring that surrounds it.
Vitoria to Maeztu
We return to the Via Verde del Vasco Navarro in all its essence, which we had abandoned. We set off along the cycle paths from Vitoria in a south-easterly direction. Once we reach the town of Trokoniz we continue along the same route as on the outward journey to reach Maeztu.
Maeztu to Estella
We will follow the Via Verde del Vasco Navarro to the end of the stage and of our 5-stage tour. Before arriving in Estella we will again visit the villages we passed on the way out. This time on a slightly downhill terrain that will take us to our starting point of the cycling route.
